Andrew James

From leaving school Andy worked as a joiner, involved in all aspects of the making and erecting sectional buildings. He enjoyed turning metal whilst at school and hoped one day to have a lathe and have a go at turning wood. This opportunity materialised in 2000 when he was able to buy his first second hand lathe. Every spare moment was spent in the workshop. Every log waiting for the fire became a potential bowl or hollow form.

It soon became time to learn the finer points of turning from an expert and that expert was internationally renowned wood turner - Chris Stott. Weekly thereafter, Andy benefited from his expertise, and will always be grateful to him for his help and patience.

It was now time to show his work to the outside world!! Initially he exhibited at local craft fairs and then country wide. It gave Andy a great sense of satisfaction to know that his work was appreciated and sought after. It encouraged him to experiment and stretch his considerable talent further and in his own words he says “I particularly enjoy turning hollow forms which can be both useful or ornamental”.

Andy’s work is now exhibit in galleries across the country and collected widely.
