Artists Dee Nickerson

As a rural artist, Dee Nickerson, with her very personal style, explores themes of living an ordinary life in the countryside and activities she enjoys such as sewing, hanging out the washing, cycling, being out and about or alone pondering life.

In some ways her work is less about life as she sees it but a mirrored reflection to it. Obviously her experiences in fashion and textile design plays a part as do her memories of Norfolk, Somerset and London and the constantly changing landscape.

Dee Nickerson has a very personal style and broad appeal, with her paintings of everyday country life. She has a huge following, with many admirers and collectors or her paintings of changing seasons and the natural world. She may have spring captured in one image and summer in another, someone walking in autumn on Southwold beach or a wintry scene, all depicting little moments of ordinary life in East Anglia.

Dee Nickerson was born in South Norfolk in 1957. From quite an early age she found excitement, challenge and escapism in making and looking at art and in other artists. Inspired by a love of fashion and at the time horses. Influenced by among others, Munnings, Hockney and even Jackie magazine, she soon decided she really wanted to be an artist. With a few setbacks but much help and encouragement from many people, learning along the way she now works as a full time artist.

Dee Nickerson tends to use acrylics and pastel but does hope to continue decorating ceramics at some point and develop printmaking, probably lino cuts.
