'I have always lived, as have my family for many generations, within a few miles of the Suffolk coastline and it is the unique character and history of this landscape which remains a constant source of fascination and inspiration for me. I intend in my work to celebrate this landscape and the wildlife to be found there ... not as an idealistic pretty picture in which the sky is always blue and the existence of that biting east wind is denied ... but rather to communicate an atmosphere and the feelings of folk - in a sense a celebration of magical ordinariness. A story to be told in images to make you smile.'
Mandy is essentially self taught and over the years has developed a style which incorporates both printmaking and painting. The card block is cut into with a scalpel, collaged in places then sealed with button polish. It is then printed in the same way as an etching, finally, each image is carefully painted in layered washes of colour. It is a lengthy and absorbing process but one that ensures each image is very much an individual piece of art even though part of an edition.
The narrative that accompanies each image has grown in importance and adds an extra dimension to the finished piece. A recent development has been individual mixed media pieces still very much in the same illustrative style.
Mandy has exhibited in London at the Mall and Bankside galleries and has work on permanent display in galleries throughout East Anglia. She is a member of the Norwich Print Fair group. Her work has appeared on the cover Birding World and as greeting cards.
