Growing up in the countryside of Suffolk, Deborah began to capture the character of its landscape at an early age. Whilst developing as an artist, her affinity with the landscape and its richness has grown and her current work still reflects this. For Deborah, the whole process of making art is like the natural growth and rhythm of the landscape she portrays - it starts with a seed and flourishes at its own pace, giving rise to a rich depth, vibrancy and texture. In her own words: "It is my desire that each painting will evoke a positive emotion and calm energy for the viewer, so that they may also benefit from the peace, tranquillity and joy I experienced which inspired me to paint." The countryside is constantly changing through the seasons and this is a major factor in her work. The seasons affect light, colour and texture in the landscape and this helps her create mood and atmosphere in her painting. it is well known that different colours trigger certain emotions and she uses this knowledge to tell a story. She enjoys creating a sense of traquillity and serenity with pops of joy, using colour. In her artworks you will find one of her constants and favourite subjects - trees. They are firmly rooted to the earth and stretch up to the sky, and this offers something spiritual that she wants to include in her paintings. Trees have a peaceful and spiritual presence in landscapes and they are symbols of strength and flexibility. The countryside and wildlife around us offer so much for our wellbeing. Painting gives Deborah peace and joy and she hopes her viewer will enjoy the paintings and experience nuggets of positive and calm energy too.
