Artists Chris Kendrick

Chris Kendrick is a figurative artist largely working in oils on canvas or canvas panel - canvas which he stretches and glues over wooden panels. 'These panels give me the 'tooth' or texture of a quality artists' canvas while providing me with a much firmer and more stable ground,' said Chris, 'this is important for the glazing and stippling techniques I use.' Chris uses traditional glazing techniques to produce a distinctive figurative oil paintings. His works possess a remarkable clarity and depth as well as an acute rendering of light and intensity of colour.

Chris goes on to say 'What intrigues me about still life is that it's essentially about an implied human presence. The way objects can create a narrative value beyond their individual worth simply by their relationships to each other in the same space. They can even suggest a sense of place and time without anything being directly stated.can create a still life painting like no other artist at the Southwold Gallery. Collectors marvel at the realism and the way objects hold a narrative value. There is an implied human presence with a half empty glass, knife on a cheeseboard or half peeled orange in his paintings. He is a most accomplished artist

After completing a Foundation Diploma at Stourbridge College of Art in his native Midlands, in 1990 Chris Kendrick moved to Norwich to undertake a BA Honours degree course in fine art.

This included a period of study at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Kunste in Karlsruhe, Germany. Since completing his degree he has continued to live in East Anglia.

!n 2003 he turned to painting full time. He shows regularly in galleries in London and throughout the east of England.
