Lynn Muir Wooden Figures

Lynn Muir artist makes wooden figures mainly from driftwood collected from her local beach. The wood is transformed using a band saw, sanding machine, hand tools and acrylic paint - each one evolving to tell their own story.

Lynn Muir started her original art school training at Colchester School of Art where she studied illustration. The first part of her career was spent in East Anglia as a designer of theatre and retail props. This was where she first started to use wood. Lynn Muir now lives in North Cornwall.

She had a ten-year break from her career to bring up her three then young children.

In 1986 - 7 she began making art with wood again, establishing her workshop on a local beach close to the Atlantic, an ideal location for collecting the varied driftwood pieces with which she makes the painted driftwood wooden figures and wall pieces. Lynn uses a sanding machine and various other hand tools and hand painting with acrylic paint to produce many varied characters, made mainly from driftwood. Lynn transforms the wood she finds on local beaches into amazing, characterful figures, which are often free standing, sometimes wall pieces and always eye catching.

She received the 'Toymaker of the Year' award in 1994 and is on the Crafts Council selected list of makers. She has exhibited throughout the country and regularly at Chelsea Crafts Fair.
