Sam finds inspiration for her artwork from memories and experiences that portray mystery, tranquillity but also timelessness. The human gaze is the anchor to draw you in and the muliple layers within the painting are the way into a conversation that is felt rather than explained.
Sam graduated from Exeter College of Art and Design with a B.A. Hons in Graphic Design, specialising in illustration. After graduating she found she favoured the freedom of creating mix-media works of her own rather than the constraints that came with working to a Graphic Design brief.
Sam is never without a sketchbook to hand, jotting down fleeting images, memories and feelings that are later depicted in her work. She paints flowers, birds and people, believing that this combination often creates an unspoken symbolism within each piece of work.
Sam has been working in the art department of a Grammar School for the past 11 years. Passing on her techniques and her love of art to the students.
"I believe in painting from your inner source, or your imagination. I am increasingly drawn to sculpture and painting that appeals to the child in each of us"
