Megan Matthews Jewellery
Meg Matthews is a jewellery designer brought up in the sunny seaside town of Sheringham on the North Norfolk coast, 'I grew up exploring the coastline, building sandcastles and foraging for treasures. On rainy days I spent hours on different arts and crafts,' says Meg.
I have always been fascinated with making things, especially jewellery. I would create jewellery out of anything I could find with the hope that I was making something more beautiful, giving found objects a new lease of life. This spurred me on to enrol in a 3 year university course based around craft and design-BA(Hons) Glass, Ceramics, Jewellery and Metal at UCA Farnham.Which I graduated with a first class degree in June 2016.
My work has often been inspired by the seaside as this is where I feel most at home. I have been inspired by people's attachments to jewellery and the memories that the jewellery holds as well as the attachments and memories held by found items, especially sea glass. To me sea glass has always been treasure, I create handcrafted and bespoke jewellery with a personal and sentimental approach to design.
Meg creates stunning jewellery, using mainly sea glass and sterling silver, in her workshop in North Norfolk; she creates earrings, necklaces, rings and more, the beauty in each piece is obvious. The treasures you find on the beach can also be turned into a special piece just for you or your loved one; a ring, a necklace, your sea glass all encased in Meg's stunning silver handcrafted masterpiece.
